Wherein our hero contacts v-moda
Saturday, March 15th, 2008Dear v-moda, I bought some of your headphones before. I liked them quite well until they started falling apart on me. It has been a while, though, so I thought I might give y’all another chance. My girlfriend needs a new pair for her iPhone. The Vibe Duo model is tempting- they look great, probably sound good and the price is reasonable. Apparently, however, your headphones still fall apart. I got my info from user reviews on the Apple site. Try here: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=A58D4EFF&fnode=home/shop_iphone/iphone_accessories&nplm=TP637LL/A Allow me to break down the numbers for you: A 3-out-of-5 star rating after 251 user reviews means that your shit is weak and you might want to take a good long look at what you are doing. I HAVE AN IDEA TO MAKE YOUR STUFF MORE RELIABLE! THIS IS FREE ADVICE, AND FROM SOMEONE WITH EXPERIENCE WITH YOUR PRODUCTS! IGNORE IT AT YOUR PERIL! OK, here it is in a nutshell: put your infatuation with metal aside and consider a wholesale switch to plastic (or whatever composite material). Plastic is what makes Apple’s $30 headphones superior to your $100 set. If the pair I had before (”remix”, I think) had been plastic rather than aluminum I would probably still have them. Surely you have enough experience with returned product to know what I refer to. So there it is. Free advice. Take it or leave it. Call me if you have any questions. V-

Friday, March 14th, 2008….and so my point is that the iPhone is the future of mobile computing. It is a brand new platform. It is years ahead of the competition. It just rocks. * * * I am by no means married to Apple. Heavily invested, yes, but not attached at the hip. If Microsoft launched a Zune phone that somehow leapfrogged the iPhone, that really innovated and gave Apple a run for their money, I would consider a switch. But we all know that just ain’t gonna happen. No other company has a chance in hell of topping the device. That’s not to say they won’t try. Touchscreen is where it’s at and everybody knows it. The smartphones available will continue to improve. There will be a myriad of me-too devices, many of them great iPhone alternatives for haters, cretins, blowhards and even folks with legitimate reasons for not using the iPhone. .
Fanboy. I admit it. Big deal.
Wednesday, March 12th, 2008OK, so I may as well have an Apple tattooed on my ass. I have actually considered getting the company logo (all-black, of course) inked permanently upon my body. Probably will refrain from doing so, though I dig their stuff that much. Here’s the thing: I was born in 1967. Looking forward to The Year 2000 and wondering what that may bring has been a favorite pastime of mine. Other 40-ish geeks know exactly what I am talking about. The 21st century! Brave new world! The promise of Tomorrow! … And when I thought of what computers would be like then, well, basically the iMac (flat panel type) is pretty close to what I pictured. … Their shit is superior, that’s all. Think Different? Yes. And Different = Better. … Still not perfect, not by a long shot. But consistently years ahead of the competition. So just drink the damned Kool-Aid already. Embrace Apple. Succumb to the will of Steve. The sooner you simply surrender to Steve, the happier you will be. He does know what is best for you. Let’s just move on, OK? … SO! My point is… (to be continued)

Molly Wood = John C. Dvorak
Monday, March 10th, 2008So I just started listening to ‘Buzz Out Loud’, the general tech punditry podcast from CNET. I realize that the hosts of the show are Americans, so I shouldn’t be surprised that they have an opinion on everything, whether they have any idea what they are talking about or not. Fine. I can deal with that.
But to hear them talk shit about the iPhone SDK as if it is not the biggest thing EVER TO HAPPEN IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD (for mobile computing)… I just can’t take it.
Presumably they saw the same video I did- the one of the SDK event that Apple posted on its site the same day. And I just cannot fathom anyone with even a little geek in ‘em seeing that video and not being beside himself with excitement for the dawn of a REVOLUTIONARY COMPUTING PLATFORM.
But Molly seems pretty smart. She understands the use of sarcasm and drollness (’drollity?’) and seems sharp overall. So I think she is saying stupid shit just to engage the listener, shock-jock style. Well, young lady, Rush Limbaugh can’t fool me with such bullshit and neither can you. I am not going to waste my time listening to your show just so I can see what stupid shit you are popping off with THIS week.
Goodbye. .
I am now an iPhone developer…
Monday, March 10th, 2008Because I say so? Pretty much, I suppose. I don’t know a damned line of code; would not know the first thing about writing it. But learn it, I must. I may just return to school for this and likely will. Essentially what I wish to do is found an iPhone support company with an emphasis in games, learning and communication apps for very young children and people with severe disabilities, especially those that inhibit communication. My real area of interest is to put the device into the hands of autistic kids, for example. At EWU there is a class of very young children which aims to integrate cognitively typical [”normal”] children and peers [age-wise] with autism. Anyway, a myriad of possibilities exists in this field and I really can’t wait to get making shit. We shall certainly do at least shareware, donation-ware all the better. Perhaps a very generous educational/ nonprofit free license and a suggested donation of $5 for civilians. Whatever. You get the idea. Idea for name of company, at least the young kid/dd/ld software and accessories branch [stuff like ‘nerf’ armor so you don’t worry about your $400 toy in the hands of a toddler, big grippy handles, shit like that.] Idea for company name is: ‘ Pass The Touchy ‘.

Friday, March 7th, 2008Hooray hooray for the SDK!
Thursday, March 6th, 2008Hi everybody. Most multitouchers will already know this, but in case you do not… Google “iPhone sdk” and look for news. Will write some more later, once I have a chance to ponder. .
